Abstract

The educational institutions and in them the teachers, are called to participate actively in the new challenges linked to the commitment in the contexts to which it belongs. In this sense, since the realization of a documentary investigation, a reflection is presented around the teacher's action on aspects related to environmental education and sustainable development. For this, an assessment of education was made as a social objective and correspondence was established with the concept of civil society and citizen participation. It is emphasized that culture in a society plays an important role in achieving sustainable development. The importance of education follows from the foregoing, since to the extent that teachers are aware of the potential they have in terms of mediation for the organization and participation of students in their environment, the greater the presence in a society of mutual trust among its members and therefore the search for cooperative alternatives. .
