Rebellion and construction of the marginal and decolonial character. Struggle for the latin american in Arriaga's “Salvar El Fuego”

Abstract

Analyzing the relationship between rebellion and decoloniality and how these allow the construction of the marginal character in Arriaga's novel Salvar el fuego (2020) allows us to understand how literary fiction makes marginalized contexts and persistent inequality in Latin America visible. From a literary and cultural perspective, the work evidences decolonial thoughts, showing the validity of power structures inherited from coloniality. These structures generate conditions that drive marginal subjects to resist or resign themselves to prejudice, which causes a fragmentation marked by the division between those who are considered superior and inferior. A documentary research of literary type is then applied with theoretical-methodological support of the cultural. The results show that decolonial thought makes rebellions emerge and that these marginal characters face limits and contradictions. Thus, the novel exposes the complexity of the Latin American struggle, where decoloniality does not manage to impose itself fully in the face of the persistence of coloniality.
