Abstract

This study analyzes the role of artificial intelligence (AI) as a catalyst for entrepreneurship in Ecuadorian higher education, in a context where emerging technologies are redefining university education and the national entrepreneurial ecosystem is showing sustained growth, according to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Ecuador 2024/2025. The central objective was to identify the main challenges, opportunities, and the importance of AI in university entrepreneurship education. This is a qualitative-descriptive study based on a systematic literature review and a documentary analysis of academic sources, grounded in the GEM report. Ten studies published between 2022 and 2025 were selected that addressed the relationship between artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, and education, considering various dimensions. The results confirm that AI contributes to the accelerated development of entrepreneurial competencies such as creativity, self-efficacy, and strategic management. However, gaps were identified related to insufficient curricular integration, limited ethical and technical training, and unequal access to technological resources. The most notable opportunities are digital transformation in academia and the promotion of accelerated innovation. In conclusion, this paper provides a summary of the most relevant theoretical frameworks, which demonstrate that AI is a strategic driver for higher education in Ecuador; however, its implementation must be guided by principles of equity and ethics. We propose three lines of action: incorporating AI-based practices into academic programs, increasing access to technological tools, and promoting their responsible and ethical use.
