Design of a heritage-cultural route for the tourist development of the Sangolquí parish, in the Canton Rumiñahui

Abstract

The main objective of the research was to design a cultural heritage route for tourism development in the urban area of ??Sangolquí, Rumiñahui canton. The study was developed under the methodology of the mixed approach, in which interviews, observation sheets and surveys were applied. The chosen population was made up of the visitors of the canton, the main tourist service providers and an analyst of the Tourism Directorate of the Municipal Government of Rumiñahui (GADMUR). The results obtained showed a great acceptance of the heritage-cultural route, considering within it the material and intangible attractions. The profile of the visitor oriented to consume the offer of a type of cultural tourism was identified, as well as the expectations and travel needs. Management aspects were determined that make tourism development efforts viable from the public sphere and finally the position of tourism servers in relation to this type of initiatives, identifying an active participation in the process. In conclusion, it was determined that said cultural heritage route is a product that can diversify the parish's tourism offer, revalue cultural heritage and strengthen identity through tourism to generate economic, social and environmental benefits to the canton and Pichincha province.
